Au was born on a small island south of mainland Asia, otherwise known as the Philippines. His childhood mainly consisted of climbing coconut trees and scavenging for small creatures such as the chupacabra and squirrel. His passion for film making began at a young age when he decided to make a movie called Professional Assassins. This led to a long string of movie making in which Au's computer exploded due to the immense amounts of his movies' content.
Au collaborated with Conor Grogan and Eric Burton in making Professional Assassins, in which they gathered hundreds of people from their hometown to help. They spent an entire week during the spring to create it, and they tried very hard to make it successful. But even with all the hard work and effort, the movie did not reach any real prodution and was not filmed.
After a two year hiatus, Au created Galaxy Warz, which is your typical star wars spinoff influenced by George Lucas's original Star Wars trilogy.
From the experience gained from a computer science video project, Au decided to tackle the Star Wars idea again with Galaxy Warz II featuring Little Al.
Au's participation in Comp Science 2 allowed him to make a short film. With his experiance of technical editing from CompSci 1 he joined Wenbo Su and Stephen Dang, they tackled the Star Wars genre again, due to Star Wars Episode 3 release looming around the corner. Au sucessfully accomplished the rotoscoping of lightsabers. The sucess of CompSci 2 allowed the new path for Starwarz : The Shattered Return.
Au's first taste of bigger group productions as assistant cameraman for Jason Butler's and David Dunavant's Oigo. Though none of his side of the footage was used in the final movie, it was used in his spinoff of Oigo called Oigo : Revisited . June 2005
Au met many of his fellow filmmakers during his participation in Eagle Productions. He joined up with long time classmate Justin Patterson and freind Joji Furuya to form Bookoo Productions in their first video called Roundhouse Chicken in Sept. of 2005. Josh Bookwalter and his brother Daniel Bookwalter later joined in as Pyro Entertainment in making Reloaded Ninja the group's first music video and successful attempt at multi-camera shooting.
Due to the success of Reloaded Ninja , another longtime classmate Dan Simonson, fellow forumite Sarah Schultz, Caitlin Lamb, and Luke Johnson joined in and formed up as DarkSide Productions to create Star Wars : The Shattered Return
